Inspiration & History

This song in it's primitive state was originally a solo piano (keyboard) piece. Before Dawn and I had gotten together, I would go over to her apartment and hang out with her. She had a Casio keyboard, and on occasion I would play it when I was there (damn musicians just can't keep their hands off musical instruments). We both worked overnights, so often times when we would get the chance to hang out, we would both be very tired. So often when I played her keyboard, it would put Dawn to sleep. One of the things that I would play was the basis for this song. I just never forgot it.

One day, Dawn and I had a disagreement of some sort. The nature of it has escaped me at this time, but I know that the part that frustrated me was the fact that I just couldn't express in words what I had meant. No matter how I tried to explain whatever it was, it was not being properly communicated. It upset me, and I really wanted to be able to just SAY what I couldn't say. Which is where the title came from.

In this state, I plugged in the fabled Casio, and just laid down a keyboard track. This was the basis for me to kind of "let loose" with a guitar lead. It was precisely what I needed to get out of my system, and expressed what I couldn't say. I added some bass to it, and voila (not viola). It recorded fairly quickly, with I believe just about everything being done in 1 or 2 takes. It took over where my words left off.
