Musical Expeditions
Welcome to the music section of my site! This is where I have information on my current musical projects, as well as some from the recent past.
Some info on my past musical work can be found here:
ANGEL VIVALDI
Not much to say here that isn't covered on the main page. High speed, intense, melodic, progressive, instrumental shred metal. I've been playing bass full time with Angel since October 2007, and I'm featured on his 2009 EP "The Speed of Dark", as well as the new 2011 EP release "Universal Language. "I can also be seen in some of the "making of" videos,"The World Burning Around Me" music video, and at all of our live performances.
This was initially reserver to be just my progressive metal project, however I have now evolved it into featuring most of "my" projects that I'm inolved in. This will now be featuring all of the music that I specifically have the bulk of creative control over. This will be the collective group that much of what lies below is going to start spilling into. Instead of a bunch of straggler individual projects, they will all fall under the moniker "Reinvision". Ultimately, Reinvision = Jake Skylyr and his many musical hats :)
As of summer 2011, I have given Reinvision a Facebook page, and I've started to upload demo songs for all to hear on my YouTube page. Slowly but surely I'll be adding the songs to the site here for download as well, and also devising some means of making my recording diaries, blogs, and maybe even some pics/video of the development available to everyone. For now though, the Facebook and YouTube will have the bulk of the updates since they're the easiest to update and most commonly viewed. (Just don't forgot to check here occasionally for goodies you can't get there!)
Since late 2008, I have been working with Greg Hines and HardKandy records. Initially I was hired to do some guitar sessions for Greg, and it quickly expanded to include a steady run of multiple recording sessions of electric guitar, acoustic guitar and bass, as well as live performances backing up and performing with various label artists. I have performed on numerous original and remake tracks with many of the label's featured artists. Greg and I have formed a strong, fun working partnership, and have plans for upcoming projects as well.
Mike Blair Project
Not the most informative site, but big plans, and intense ideas are just on the horizon. Mike and I met in mid 2005, and have been working on/off since then. In that time, he and I have concocted a slew of amazing ideas ranging from melodramatic cheesiness, to balls to the wall metal, and most points in between. Amazing things are in store with this project as the intensity of our combined talents and writing styles won't go unnoticed.
SkyBorg
In between the years of playing together and constantly searching for new musicians to jam and work with, James and I discovered our uncanny knack for being able to come up with some awesome flowing jams when we play together as a twisted duet of guitar/drums. We decided to periodically explore some of these unplanned musical excursions and document them. Most of these do take place at home unexepectedly, but they do exist, and maybe someday they'll be performed for the public. For now, this page is a little taste of what awaits.
Jake Skylyr Solo
My solo material. Back in the day, I may have just lumped most of the projects listed above and below as "Jake Skylyr". I have since tried my best to divide it up into more concise individual projects that are more streamlined and focues stylistically. This basically leaves the more melodic, expressive, ballady slow type songs to be left to being considered "Jake Skylyr Solo". This is the MySpace music page associated with it. Basically, the music most likely to be exclusively written/performed/approved by me will fall into this category.
Internal Decapitation
This is the page which contains the collaborations with Beth Seminara and myself. Her voice is capable of being appropriate for opera, metal, acoustic ballads, and as such, our collaborations run this gamut as well.
Info on the scariness exuded by Shaun and I...
In the summer of 1998, I met Shaun Ferris through my job. He was/is a bass geek, and I'm a guitar geek. We got along on many levels. Insanity was enjoyed by us, and those who managed to get in the path of the waveforms emitted from the various objects used as speakers. This can get weird...
The info on the "legendary" disc. This was my first collection of mostly original music, featuring mostly me on all instruments and production. This page has lots of information regarding recording techniques, inspiration, lyrics (some you've heard, some you haven't), and most importantly downloads to the songs if you haven't already heard them. These songs are getting old at this point, but I'm still proud of them.
